Opportunities for design engineers

A design engineer’s main task is developing, creating and constructing subsystems and components, on time and in budget. After the design has been drawn up, the product/module is developed by the development engineers so that production can be made possible. 2D and 3D structures are developed, depending on the customer's requirements. Often the structure is developed and visualized with the help of "CATIA V4" or "CATIA V5" CAD systems. Drawing up construction documents and bills of material is another job done by design engineers. Their expertise enables them to analyze and evaluate pre-construction documents and check over technical drawings. ARTS design engineers also work on detailed development tasks and optimize components and modules.

At ARTS, development engineers work on projects such as Airbus A350 and A380. They also construct subsystems for Airbus helicopters, such as the Airbus H135 and Airbus H145.

Design is an engineering profession that requires imagination and the ability to think both spatially and mathematically, along with communication skills, the ability to work in a team, and conflict resolution skills, because of the close collaboration and consultation with other departments.

Projects of our design engineers

ARTS design engineers are involved in creating small and large components, such as aircraft door systems, manufacturing equipment, or the construction of modules for the fuel supply.

The construction of aircraft door systems or wing components is enabled by our development engineers in Manching. Here, like in Seville, our design engineers work for our client Airbus Defence and Space, developing subsystems, e.g. for the Airbus A400M. Donauwörth is where small parts are designed, such as those for H135 and H145 helicopters. Our design engineers in Dresden develop lightweight components for the Airbus 380 on behalf of Elbe Flugzeugwerke (EFW).

Application as design engineer

We expect the following minimum qualifications from our industrial designers:

  • A degree in engineering, preferably in aerospace engineering or mechanical engineering

  • Experience in the field of construction

  • Very good knowledge of CATIA V4, CATIA V5

  • Knowledge of Nastran / Patran

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office

  • Proficiency in German and English
