Operation and optimisation of existing and new mainframe computers
User support for scientists from various German universities
Conceptual development of the system and service landscape
Backup and long-term storage of research data
Containerisation of system services
Provision of frameworks (e.g. TensorFlow, JupyterHub etc.)
Evaluation of cross-site security aspects, as well as the operation of secure data exchange systems
University degree in computer science, a technical discipline or natural sciences
First experience in operating HPC systems or Linux-based servers
Motivation to deal with complex concepts and techniques, to develop and to continuously educate yourself in these areas
Initiative, creativity and independence as well as the ability to work in a team
Experience in interdisciplinary work
Very good written and spoken German and good English skills
We are looking forward to the following additional experiences:
Maintenance of HPC software packages and their use from software modules.
Knowledge of programming (e.g. C, Fortran) and scripting languages (e.g. Python, Bash)
Knowledge of server hardware and system architectures
Administration and management of computing clusters under Linux
Use and operation of container infrastructures (e.g. Singularity, Kubernetes etc.)
Knowledge of parallel or highly available file systems (e.g. GPFS, Lustre, NFS etc.), storage system hardware and backup concepts
Operation of batch systems (e.g. SLURM, Moab etc.)
Administration/use of SQL-based databases (e.g. mySQL, MariaDB etc.)
Knowledge of monitoring systems (e.g. Ganglia, Nagios etc.)
Network technologies (e.g. Infiniband, Ethernet etc.)
