There's more beyond the horizon! Udo Lindenberg wasn't the only one who knew that in his 1987 song of the same name. Travel has always connected people and is the livelihood of countless people in many regions of the world. The travel industry is considered an early adopter of new technologies that make it even easier to discover remote corners of the earth. Our client - Amadeus Data Processing GmbH - is therefore committed to improving travel experiences and shaping a better future for travel.

In the more than 30-year history of the company, there have been many changes, new challenges that have been mastered, and transformation processes again and again to adapt to new circumstances in the market. This is also the case in 2021 - after a year that was not easy for the tourism industry anyway. Transformation is also taking place now at Amadeus Data Processing GmbH. The internal structures have to be adapted to new conditions - the focus should be on young talents. Graduates who bring knowledge and experience from university and pursue new ideas and approaches. In addition to these personnel changes, Amadeus is also working in parallel on a cloud transformation.

"The close cooperation with all contact persons at Amadeus was also a lot of fun and always took place at eye level. It's great to see how you can achieve great things together in such a partnership."

Recruiting 4.0 with ARTS

As HR experts, we have been advising and taking on tasks related to the entire employee cycle for more than 20 years. In a six-month project, our joint goal was to establish a trainee program and recruit 10 IT trainees in the field of cloud engineering for it, who would then start as early as October 2021. The project included various phases and milestones anchored within them.

University campaign

A key component in attracting and retaining young talent is university marketing. To this end, our experts contacted various German and European universities and colleges and their career centers. In close and regular consultation with those responsible for the project at Amadeus, job advertisements for trainee vacancies were also published on the job boards of selected universities and events were evaluated at which the graduate program could be presented.

Job posting and active sourcing

In parallel, the ARTS HR Communications team handled the job posting process. In cooperation with Amadeus and the ARTS Marketing Team, we created a specific, search engine optimized landing page for the advertised trainee positions and were thus able to build the basic framework for the recruiting project. The job ads were published where the young target group is often found - on social media channels such as Xing and Linkedin, but also in job search portals such as Indeed or Traineegeflüster, as well as on the ARTS and Amadeus websites.

Often, classic and tried-and-tested methods of recruiting employees are no longer sufficient. In these cases, direct contact with target candidates is THE successful method. Our social recruiting was also used in this project. A total of 300 candidates across Europe who met the professional requirements of the job posting were contacted directly via Xing and LinkedIn.

Applicant selection & interviews

The pre-selection was carried out by Amadeus due to technical circumstances. The candidates forwarded to us were then invited to video interviews, which were mainly conducted in English, since most of them were international graduates and this is also the corporate language of Amadeus. Afterwards, all interviews were recorded and sent to the project managers in Erding together with an assessment and recommendation for each candidate. The selected candidates then went through several internal steps. As these were cloud engineering positions, a coding challenge was completed to test their technical programming skills. Those responsible from the specialist departments were also given the opportunity to get to know the potential new colleagues in a technical interview. Finally, an assessment center was conducted with the selected candidates, which included group work, interviews and presentations by Amadeus. As advisors and guides, we were in close contact with Amadeus. In this way, we were also able to ensure which of the selected candidates were at which specific point in the process.

Six months after the project kick-off, all 10 trainee positions were successfully staffed, so that in October 2021 all new colleagues in Erding will be able to get started together with Amadeus. The international Amadeus team could grow even further thanks to our ARTS support and master new challenges in the future.

Project expertise for 20 years

Another key milestone for the successful completion of the project was the overarching project management. In other projects, such as our collaboration with the Autobahn GmbH des Bundes, we already work entirely within our customer's applicant management system in order to make processes uniform and simple. Since this was unfortunately not possible in the Graduate Program, we designed the cooperation of all responsible persons as closely as possible. Meetings and progress reports were held regularly over a 14-day period to ensure that we were always up to date and on top of things.
