Start as a cutting machine operator at ARTS

Job opportunities

The profession of cutting machine operator is an apprenticeship with a training period of three and a half years. Legally, the training is open to interested parties with any school-leaving qualification, but in practice, the intermediate school-leaving certificate is usually expected. After graduation, cutting machine operators usually work in plastics and metal processing companies in industry.

Machining production processes include processes in which a component is brought into the desired shape by removing chips. In everyday industry, these tasks are performed almost exclusively by machines, such as CNC-controlled turning, boron cutting, grinding and milling machines. Machinists are responsible for processing production orders on these manufacturing machines. They check and complete the orders, set up the machines, monitor the manufacturing process and rework the finished parts as needed. Servicing and maintaining the machines and tools are also part of their job description.

The most important skills of a cutting machine operator include high precision, manual dexterity and good concentration, because deviations of just a few micrometers can lead to a part being rejected. In addition, an interest in mathematics and technology and spatial awareness are advantageous.

Projects

ARTS metal cutting mechanics work for our customers in the automotive supply industry and in companies in the metalworking industry. They take on a variety of tasks in the planning and implementation of individual production orders on the production machines:

When an order is received, they decide on the tools required and prepare them for use; they also run the production programs on the machines. During the manufacturing process, they monitor the quality of the production and correct and optimize the programs and tools where necessary.

Between the individual production orders, they take on other tasks: They repair clamping and operating equipment, ensure that minimum stock levels are maintained in the warehouse by regularly checking inventory, and prepare orders for tool reordering in the course of this. They also write the documentation for all processes in their area of responsibility.
