Job opportunities
Purchasers are responsible for purchasing goods and services for the entire company. Behind this simple description, however, lies a demanding and varied range of tasks. In addition to operational purchasing activities, employees in the purchasing department have to make a large number of strategic decisions, for example regarding the correct time of purchase, the quantity or the choice of suppliers. In doing so, they have a great deal of responsibility for costs and, accordingly, a decisive influence on the overall success of the company.
Access to work in the purchasing department can be gained through training, for example as a foreign trade or industrial clerk, or by completing a technical or business degree. However, a wide range of skills and soft skills are also crucial for working in purchasing. Purchasers should have a strong understanding of economics and the ability to think strategically in order to adequately assess the current situation in all markets. They also need calculative skills and knowledge of relevant IT applications, such as Office or SAP. In contact with suppliers, communication skills, negotiation skills, a confident appearance and risk awareness are enormously important. Due to the large number of global supply chains, good foreign language skills are also increasingly becoming a basic requirement.
Projects
ARTS buyers work for us and our customers in the mechanical and plant engineering, aerospace and selected companies in the automation sector. Among other things, they take on a variety of strategic tasks: They prepare market analyses, identify potential for cost optimization and implement improvement measures based on the analysis. They also carry out critical supplier assessments. Another key area of responsibility is the purchasing process itself. ARTS buyers are responsible for the procurement of technical products and services. They provide support in purchasing negotiations, contract discussions and purchasing projects. In addition, they are the direct contact person for suppliers in the event of technical queries.
